For Aston Villa defender Matty Cash, the past few weeks have been nothing short of a whirlwind!
At the World Cup in Qatar, the Poland defender competed against Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, earning both of their shirts in the process. Most recently, the Poland defender was photographed alongside the great Ronaldinho of Brazil.
As you can see in the image below, the player who won the World Cup in 2002 posted on his Instagram story, “Thank you for the love, Matty Cash.”
‘THE POLISH CAFU’
Not more than a couple of years ago, Cash was an all-action winger at his boyhood club Nottingham Forest, who were playing in the Championship at the time. He was attempting to make a name for himself.
The door was then knocked on by Aston Villa, and the 25-year-old secured a transfer across the Midlands to Villa Park, which included a jump up from England’s second-tier to the Premier League. Villa Park is located in the city of Villa Park.
Since then, his playing ability has improved by a factor of ten, including being named Player of the Season for Aston Villa’s 2021/22 campaign and then being called up to the Poland national team.
It has all been topped off by the winger-turned-right-back playing on the biggest stage in football in Qatar, and despite Poland’s recent elimination at the hands of France, Cash did put on a good showing in Doha. Cash played on the biggest stage in football.
There is no question in my mind that he is capable of taking his game to the next level, especially under the tutelage of Unai Emery, who has a proven track record of coaxing every ounce of talent out of his players.
If he is successful in doing so with Cash and with Villa, then there is no question that the club will be back in Europe in an extremely short amount of time.
