Does crossbow expert let you fire twice?

It is not possible to continually shoot two hand crossbows because you need one hand free in order to reload them. If you are using a light crossbow, the Crossbow Expert is not useful unless the character also has Extra Attack. Due to the fact that the two-weapon fighting rules mandate the use of melee weapons, the Light property seen on hand crossbows is entirely pointless.

The light property is one of the many that the hand crossbow possesses. According to the Player’s Handbook (PHB), the definition of “light” is as follows: “A light weapon is both compact and easy to handle, making it excellent for use when battling with two weapons.” [Citation needed] You can toss either weapon instead of using it for a melee attack if it has the property of being thrown, which both of these weapons should have.

Can you use a light crossbow with a shield?

RAW, no. You have the ability to HOLD a crossbow and benefit from a shield, but you do not have the ability to shoot a crossbow. To load the bolt into even a 1H hand crossbow, you need to have one hand free. If you pre-load a bolt into your crossbow and then strap on your shield, you will have one shot before the crossbow is rendered unusable; however, this is a house rule and most DMs will let you do this.

This is merely a heads-up. No. A crossbow cannot be used to shoot from any location. When shooting a crossbow, there is no risk of starting a fire. There is no air resistance in space, thus if you shoot a crossbow, the bolt will travel much further. This is because there is no atmosphere to slow it down.

Do you need a free hand to load a crossbow?

If the crossbow can only be fired with one hand, then the answer is yes (you never need a free hand with a two-handed Ammunition weapon). The Loading property of weapons can be loaded more quickly with the Crossbow Expert feat (only). Because the ability “Crossbow Expert” does not modify the Ammunition property, which dictates that the user must have at least one free hand to load a crossbow, this restriction remains in place.
