Meet ‘Little People, Big World’ Sar Peggy and Ron Roloff, Matt’s Parents

The number of Roloff family members who have appeared on Little People, Big World has gradually decreased over the course of the show’s history. Molly and Jacob made it abundantly clear that they have no interest in participating in reality television once they reached maturity. Following Jeremy and Audrey’s departure, the remaining cast members on the TLC series included Matt Roloff and Caryn Chandler, Amy Roloff and Chris Marek, and Zach and Tori Roloff (along with their children). But what about Matt’s biological parents, the original Roloff couple?

Who exactly are Matt Roloff’s mom and dad?

Peggy and Ron Roloff are the proud parents of their son, Matt. They made their first appearance on Little People, Big World in 2006, which was the first season of the TLC series. Since then, they have traveled to Oregon on several occasions, either to appear on the show or to simply visit the state off-camera, such as when pumpkin season was in full swing at Roloff Farms.

When Matt and Amy were going through the difficult process of separating and then divorcing one another, there was a brief pause in the LPBW storyline involving Ron and Peggy. This took place between the time that Matt’s parents appeared in the episode “New Year, Big Changes” from Season 13 in 2014 and the episode “Four Generations of Roloffs” from Season 18 — during which Matt’s parents traveled from California to Oregon to meet Zach and Tori’s son, Jackson, on the first Father’s Day after he was born. Jackson was Zach and Tori’s first child together.

During the latter episode, Ron commented that 600 miles was a relatively short distance to travel in order to visit his great grandson.

“Yup,” Peggy nodded in agreement.

“It is impossible for me to picture myself in that role. Are we of an age where we can do that?” Ron playfully added.

Ron Roloff, the father of Matt Roloff, passed away in the year 2022.

Unfortunately, Matt’s father, Ron, passed away in 2022, but thankfully, Matt’s mother, Peggy, is still with us today.

“A week filled with sorrow for the Roloff family. Yesterday evening, my grandfather, who was lovingly referred to as “Papa” by his 10 grandchildren and his 10 great grandchildren, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior in heaven “Matt wrote this in an Instagram post on August 1st. “Ron was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a source of motivation for a great many people.”

When Ronald passed away, he had lived a full life and had reached the age of 84.

Matt went on to say that “It was one of the final things he spoke to me, and it was about how proud he was of everything I had accomplished… After that, he recited a passage that said, “My Father’s house contains many rooms; Jesus said… I am going there to prepare a place for you.” And if I leave and make ready a place for you, then I will come back and take you to be with me so that you can also be where I am (John 14:2-3).”

A memorial service honoring Matt’s father was held in November 2022, and the LPBW actor took the opportunity to post some photos from the service to his Instagram account for his followers to see. A post that was entirely composed of pictures had the following caption: “All of the cousins getting together to have fun and celebrate Papa Ron’s incredible life would have made him ecstatic… A life that has been lived to the fullest!”
